Potential Threats in I.T

Potential Threats in I.T

In this section I am going to discuss the potential threats in I.T which are:
1) Viruses, Trojan Horses, worms and spam mail and Malware
2) Fraud and Identify Theft
3) Copy right
4) Grooming victims
5) Hacking
6) Bullying

1)  Viruses, Trojan Horses, worms and spam mail

Viruses: its computer software which can spread in different ways such as by downloading files from the internet, opening the email attachments from people which the user doesn’t know etc.

The viruses can attach their self and spread easily from one computer to another by sending the unknown email attachments, uploading scams and files to the internet or just passing the virus using the USB or Memory cards.

It’s important to have anti-virus install in the computer, just to protect the computer and computer files. Also never download the files and attachments which you don’t know from the internet and mail. Viruses can damage or corrupt the data and files or even delete them if the computer is not protected.

Trojan Horses: it’s a type of malware which doesn’t self replicating which most often appears to perform a desirable function which can try to access unauthorized users computer

Trojan Horses do not attach their self on the computer files like viruses, but they can steal the user’s information or harm the user’s computer systems host.

Trojans are able to tract the user, when the user plays online games or internet driver applications just to reach their target

Worms: it’s a stand alone malware program which can spread to other computers similar like virus, most often the computer worms for spreading uses the computer network to spread it self by relying on the security failures on the target computer to access it.

The worms doesn’t need to attach on the files like virus do , worms do cause least some harm to the computer network not like viruses which can corrupt and delete the computer files

Spam Mail: most often know as a junk mail, the same spam mail can be send to a lot of people. A lot of spam mails if the user clicks on the spam mail attachments or links which being attached on the spam mail, it can cause the malware and affect the user’s computer

Malware: the short meaning of the malware is malicious, malware is the software which is being programmed by attackers to disrupt or stop the computer operation by gathering the sensitive information or just gain access to the private areas in the computer.

The malware can appear either in code, scripts, active software or software. Malware has different types such as viruses, ransom ware, worms, Trojan horses, spyware etc.

2)  Fraud and Identify theft

Fraud: is a use of information to commit of fraud. In the United States there is act for the fraud which is call ‘’ Computer Fraud and Abuse Act’’

By committing fraud the user can even be fined or be jailed if the information is being unauthorized.

Identify Theft: it’s a type of form which can steal the other user’s identity by masking their self of being someone else by assuming someone identity by trying to access to the credit/debit card details which belongs to other user.

3) Copy Right

Copy right: it’s a legal protection, to protect the other users work and material. There is a copy right act which is being set to protect other users. The copy right law does cover books, CD/DVD, music, videos and photographs.

The user cannot download or copy the files which are being protected by the copy right law with out the author’s permission. If the user copies the authors work with permission he/she can be fined or even jailed.

4) Grooming victims

Grooming shows up when the scammer tries to gain trust of the other users by making regular contact. Groomers wants to find out the sensitive information such as financial information and get some cash from the user who trust them (from a single contact)

Groomers tries to get all the information from the user which they need to know about you , most often they can get information from the user by chatting/communicating with user such online chat rooms, emails , dating websites etc.

5) Hacking

Hacker it’s people who seeks and tries to find out the user computer weakness, by trying to access to the users computer with out getting the permission.

A lot of hackers are being motivated by multiple reasons which are for profit, challenge and protest.

Hacker’s especially professional hackers are able to access to the computer files with out entering the user’s username and password.

A lot of people these days can hack using telephone by trying to access to the users personal details, also in Face book there is some people who can try to hack other users account .

6) Bullying

Another threat in IT is cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is when the person is being bully via online, messages and emails. One of the examples of the cyber bullying is Face Book. Most often cyber bullying is being done by the children and teenagers.

Another example is: there is a film which about Cyber bullying experience and how far the cyber does bullying can go. Here is the print screen of it:

Cyber bullying can happen when the person has ‘’fake account’’ and mask him self as other person. One person can start to bully the other user and other people might join the bullying because they can think what he was saying in bad words was right even if it was wrong insult.

Cyber bullying is very similar to a real life bullying, but online bully can defend it self by masking it self for e.g. making fake accounts, have account which is anonymous.

Cyber bullying can lead to the self suicidal and other mental and emotional problems. But most often the bully victim’s suicide their self’s because due to bullying. The people who agrees with the bully they can encourage the bullies victim to kill him/her self by leaving comments, posting videos and pictures of the victim. The other example of the cyber bullying suicidal is about the girl who was name Amanda Todd, here is the link of news about this girl:
